Lemon Grove School District Governing Board Appoints April Leon to Vacant Seat

Lemon Grove, CA - On November 25, 2019, the Lemon Grove School District Governing Board held a Special Meeting with the intent to revisit the board member appointment process that was voted on at the October 8, 2019 Regular School Board Meeting. After five rounds of voting, the Board consulted District legal counsel to inquire whether they had the ability to rescind a motion to follow Robert’s Rule of Order to appoint a new member with three or more votes.

The Board motioned to utilize a ranking system to appoint a new Board Member to Mrs. Katie Dexter’s vacated seat; April Leon was ultimately selected to join the Lemon Grove School District Governing Board. She will be sworn in at the December 17, 2019 Regular Governing Board meeting and her tenure will last until November 2020.

The Governing Board revisited the appointment process at this Special Meeting in order to avoid having this decision go to a special election.  Although, the Board voted on a resolution to send this decision to the voters, it was found that the special election would cost the District in excess of $200,000.00. The Board would like to thank all seven applicants, all members of the public who made public comment, and to the Lemon Grove community who participated in this process.
